It is the same as the feeling you get if you rise early, well rested of course, before obligations and the rest of your family. It is a day untainted, full of promise.
We pulled out a rationed jar of raspberry syrup last night for my son’s 16th birthday. It made me eager to be out in the sun again, listening to the bees. (Temperatures consistently in the 20s might have spurred that desire though.)
But newness wears off quick. Only a few days into the regular routine and I am already sleeping through the alarm.
My family never did New Year’s resolutions growing up, so my husband and I haven’t either. But I do agree that they are a good way to capture that expectation which feels so good.
Here’s to summer–and a New year. “A garden is never so good as it will be next year.”– Thomas Cooper
