A Mother’s Love

I purchased a few school supplies and among them was a tiny composition book. I have always used composition books for vocabulary and journal with the kids so I knew the 1 inch by 3 inch booklet would be fun for them.

Sure enough, tonight my youngest asked for a story start. I gave him two sentences and he started to scratch away in the booklet. Later, during dinner, he began to tell me where the story was going.

I told him that it was so good, intriguing, exciting… I wanted him to keep writing it. He looked at me condescendingly and said, “If you were my editor, you’d say ‘No thanks — I’ll pass,’ but because you’re my mom you think it’s great.”

Then he looked at me with an expression kind of like this:
